You are right that 1500+ alone will not get you into T20. Even 1600 won't do that. But, if colleges were deciding between two candidates and one of them has a 1500 and the other has a 1600, they will choose the latter. I think you should retake if your score is 1550 or below. Above that, and I don't think it makes a difference.
